ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP MEETS
SUSTAINABLE COFFEE FARMING
PROCAFE empowers smallholder farmers and rural communities across Puerto Rico through a combination of environmental restoration, education, and economic resilience initiatives. We lead large-scale agroforestry efforts, distributing millions of trees and promoting sustainable land use. Our youth education programs bring environmental leadership and conservation skills into schools, preparing the next generation to care for the island’s natural resources. Through the Fondo R.A.I.Z., we provide farmers with access to capital and technical assistance to rebuild and adapt to climate challenges. Across all our work, we focus on community-driven solutions that restore the land, strengthen livelihoods, and build a more resilient future for Puerto Rico.
CAFÉ DEL FUTURO
Café del Futuro is PROCAFE’s current flagship agroforestry conservation initiative, focused on restoring Puerto Rico’s mountain ecosystems while supporting smallholder farmers. The program, an alliance led by NCBA-CLUSA, distributes native and shade trees, promotes sustainable farming practices, quantifies carbon capture, and provides technical assistance to help farmers adapt to climate change and reach better markets for their coffee. Funded in part by the USDA, Café del Futuro combines reforestation and soil conservation to regenerate the land and strengthen rural livelihoods.

Driving data-informed, nature-based solutions. We are building a foundation for long-term impact by investing in applied research on soil health, carbon capture, and climate-smart agroforestry. Through partnerships with universities, technical consultants, and global certifiers, PROCAFE collects and shares data that informs better practices on the ground—and opens doors to new opportunities like carbon credit markets and ecosystem services compensation.
Centering the leadership of women in the land’s recovery.Across all our programs, PROCAFE is committed to lifting up the voices of women in rural Puerto Rico. We support women-led farms, cooperatives, and conservation projects while providing space for knowledge-sharing, technical training, and visibility. We believe building a resilient future starts with equity—on the land, in the home, and in leadership.
